We ate the special pastries FaFa had let Maddie pick out in lieu of a birthday cake. Maisie and Duke had been sick with RSV all week, and Braden was away at a work retreat, so it was a crazy week to say the least! I had intended to take Caleb out to buy Maddie her gift from her siblings, but that wasn't happening. My friend Valori was kind enough to stop by Target and pick up the gift for me...the matching purple fairy. So Maddie still got the present that night on her birthday! Being the stellar parents that we are, we entirely forgot to give Maddie our big gift for her! The funny thing is she never even asked. :)
Then a few days later, we gathered all the extended fam together to celebrate with Maddie. She asked for a large apple pie "just like last year", which Caleb decorated.
Mommy and Daddy remembered (just barely!) to give her her big gift this time--a trip with Daddy to see the Nutcracker Ballet...something she's been wanting to see. She'll go at the beginning of December. Here she is blowing out her candles while Daddy holds her hair out of the flames. :)
