We were driving home from church, and Maddie began telling me all about her Sunday school class. She told me that she had learned about Lazarus and how he was dead and alive (as she put it). I started to get warm fuzzies thinking about how wonderful it is that my just-turned-three year old is learning bible stories at church and is able to remember them and tell me about them. So, Maddie was telling me about Lazarus, I was having warm fuzzies, and then I asked her, "And what did Jesus do?"
"Jesus made Lazarus not alive."
(Assuming she mis-spoke) "Yes, that's right, Jesus made Lazarus alive."
"No, Mommy. Jesus made Lazarus DEAD."
"No, Maddie. Jesus made Lazarus alive."
"No, Mommy. Lazarus was alive and Jesus made Lazarus DEAD."
There went the warm fuzzies! I spent the whole car ride laughing inside and trying to convince Maddie that Jesus did not make Lazarus dead--to no avail!

PP part 3--what Caleb does in a pumpkin patch
Pumpkin Patch part 1
On Monday we took the kids to a nearby farm to pick pumpkins. It was mostly fun but ended a little dramatically as I'll explain later. It was a GORGEOUS fall day! The sun was strong and perfect for photos and painting.
They had a few pumpkins set up under a canopy, and Maddie thought that's what we were there to get. Here she is trying to 'steal' a pumpkin. Nope, Maddie, over there in the field.

And this photo is where everything began to fall apart...we were just about done, Braden went back to gather the pumpkins we'd chosen and set aside. Maddie started crying and saying she had a rash (she meant diaper rash), Caleb had found a rotten apple and was eating it. I got Maddie calmed down and back to the car only to discover that she had had diarrhea which had leaked out onto her pants and given her the absolute worst rash I have ever seen! Any mom knows the rest of that story--trying to clean the mess up in a car. It was the beginning of a minor tummy bug that both Maddie and Caleb got.
But we did have fun for most of the morning, and we also got 7 cute little pumpkins of different shapes and sizes for our doorstep. More pumpkin patch to come...

Daddy and boy

I liked the lone red tree.

Amongst the pumpkins were huge butternut squashes. They were so large, I had to get one. Here's me with my squash (and I didn't even pick the biggest ones). I think I'm going to get at least 4 good meals out of this monster!

Here's my favorite picture of the day.

I got 2, one from each:
"What does the cow say Caleb?" (We were driving, passing cows.)
"Booooo, booooo!"
Maddie didn't want to eat her biscuit, saying she didn't like it. I told her it was the same one she had last night and she liked it.
"Well, yesterday I was a little girl and I liked it. Today I am a big girl, and I don't like it."

pears
Maddie drew her first 'real' picture today! She has yet to draw anything beyond scribbles or straight lines or circles at best, or 'marks' as she'll tell you. Well, today Maddie called to me from where she was coloring, "Hey, Mom, I drew a pear!" I thought, great, she's finally drawing something. But I was surprised to find it actually looked like what she said it was! Here are 4 of her pears. Note the oblong shapes and the stems.

And here is my favorite pear.
Maddie's birthday in pictures!
How old are you, Maddie?!
I'm thhr...let's see here...
I'm thhr...let's see here...

...that would be uh thrr...hmmm...

...there. Three. I'm three.

Well, several weeks ago, when asked, Maddie decided she wanted a 'turtle purple cake.' Turtle, because that's what she had last year, and purple because that's her favorite color. Well, about 2 weeks before her birthday, the turtle changed to a pig. Maddie wanted a purple pig cake. She likes pigs. Well, I looked around online a little and thought about it myself and figured out how to make a pig cake with purple icing (all natural, of course). Friday I made all the cake pieces. Saturday morning Maddie looked at me incredulously when I said purple pig cake. "A purple TURTLE cake, Mommy, I didn't say a pig cake. I said I wanted a purple TURTLE cake." It was actually quite funny. Just to bless her, I looked at my leftover parts from the pig and figured out how to construct a tiny turtle cake. So Maddie ended up with a pig cake...

and her own personal little turtle cake, both a lovely shade of light purple.

...I'll huff and puff and...

...and hmmmmm...

...and I'll huff and puff...
...any ideas, Daddy?

Yes!

A pig sticker book from Gair!

Oh, and a pig movie, too!

A couple of tiny piggy decorations.

Cake is good!

Don't forget about me; I want cake, too!

Opening Lala's gift. That was fun--lots of tissue paper!

The grandma and the great-grandma.
We gave Maddie her first golf set.
Here, let me get my bag on.
