"Miss Maddie's Bday" aka "Madeleines for the Madeleine"

We celebrated Maddie's birthday at "home" a few days late due to our trip to the Rawlings'. Maddie and I made madeleines to go with her birthday cake. We've been meaning to do this for a few years but keeping forgetting. THIS year we finally remembered!

DOUBLE DIGITS ! !

Maddie once again chose...lasagna!

A special birthday since we were living with Nonna & FaFa!

Annnnd in classic Maddie-style...

...she huffed...

...and puffed...

...and didn't blow her candles out!

Round two.

Round 3 (and 4 and 5) and finally success!

Maddie chose a gingerbread cake with pear sauce and vanilla ice cream plus her madeleines.

And the favorite gift of this year was roller blades!

More from October!

Everyone wants to help!

The days in October were LOVELY! We spent a lot of time outdoors playing and enjoying the HUGE yard. So grateful for a BIG outdoors for the kids to play in!

Resting

I hit the farmers market and brought us home a "welcome to the south" gift - muscadines! Yum!

The kids loved playing with the magnolia cones. Many a cone became a microphone. They're sturdy and the perfect size.

After the cones turn pink, the berries start to ripen and pop out.

You can pull off the berries, and each one pulls out a white whispy thread.

Duke started taking an interest in baseball.

There are always interesting things to be found on the property.

Like this old lichen and moss covered log.

A late afternoon down by the pond.

Maisie is in the throws of 3 year old smiles.

Silly kids!

Maisie helping Nonna snap beans. Anything she can get her hands into she loves.

Over Maddie's birthday weekend we traveled to see the Rawlings so Braden could preach at their church. We stopped by a farm to pick pumpkins on our way there.

There were play sets to play on, tubes to crawl through.

Animals to see.

Places to pose for pictures.

And we even took a rare selfie together.

The Rawlings had birthday cupcakes for Maddie.

And a present.

And they even decorated the bedroom door. They were so thoughtful!

And Sunday after church we went out to lunch as families and the wait staff sang "Happy Birthday" to Maddie. :)

Traveling on her birthday wasn't so bad at all!

And once we got home, we put our pumpkins on the porch.

Especially our monster pumpkin! Maddie and Mommy talked Daddy into getting the largest pumpkin we found! It was as big as the Duke.

It sure made us a lot of pumpkin puree!
