back to october because--ooops!--I forgot halloween

Our kids went around our neighborhood again with the neighbor kids. We really are blessed with very friendly and kind neighbors.

Maddie was Tinkerbell. She thought she just didn't look like Tinkerbell because her dress was the wrong color green or something like that. But everywhere we went people called her Tinkerbell just like I said they would. I thought she made an adorable Tink!
Her Tinkerbell shoes she made with the pompoms that fell off her slippers.

Caleb marches to the beat of his own drum. Despite all the great costumes/dress-up stuff we kept offering him, he wanted nothing to do with it. He made himself some paper weapons and declared himself a knight, and was very happy with his decision...despite the expression in this photo.

Maisie was our sweet little ladybug.

And Duke was Batman. The cutest, chubbiest Batman around!

PopPop & Bubby and Gair stopped by to see the kids dressed up before we went out.

Braden spontaneously decided to be the UPS man...

...which left me the only one not dressed up and us leaving in 2 minutes. So I ran upstairs and put on my Hawaiian dress and grabbed the kids' dress-up leis. And a little jacket because of course I'm always cold.
The kids had a great time of course! Maisie was thrilled to be with the big kids. It took her a long time to figure out everyone was getting candy at each door, because she just wanted to stay with Daddy instead of going to the doors.

Duke had a great time staying up late and getting to walk and run around the neighborhood to his heart's content. Who cares about candy when you're on the loose and up way past your bedtime?!

It was a fun evening, and the rain that had been threatening all day held off until we were just about done anyway. So once the rain began, we were already heading home.

sharp teeth

Ever since our museum trip, Caleb has been all about dinosaurs with sharp teeth. Prior to the ZU-zem he was into fish with sharp teeth. The museum trip broadened his horizons from just fish with sharp teeth to dinosaurs with sharp teeth, lions with sharp teeth, bears with sharp teeth, and so on...with sharp teeth.

Lately Caleb has also enjoyed helping me pack Braden's lunch in the morning. When we went to write a note for Daddy's lunch bag, Caleb wanted me to draw dinosaurs, but HE wanted to draw the sharp teeth. Thus the fire-breathing dragons--I mean the dinosaurs, wif shawp teef!(That's just the extra sharp teeth. Wots of shawp teef!)

bobe-isms

A few current bobe-isms Braden and I enjoy hearing...

Yes, it is-nt:

Is this the right one? (Nodding) "Yes, it is-n't." You want the red race car? Hmmm...is this the car you're looking for? "Yes! It is-n't!"

Oh:
Another one I love hearing is "oh." Caleb says "oh" as though he completely understands in great depth everything you just said. There's no way I can describe it in written form--you'll just have to take my word for it that it's pretty funny to hear!

Whoop-see Day-zee:
Caleb's in that phase where he is starting to use grown-up phrases and expressions when he talks. He just doesn't always use them in the right context, and it is obvious he is making the extra effort to use the phrases. Lately, it's been "whoopsie daisy" a lot. He drops a toy, "Whoop-sie, day-zee." A crayon rolls off the table, "Uh-oh. Whoop-sie, day-zee." It always makes me smile.

a few bobe-isms & a quote

A few current ones we particularly like...

zirt (dessert)
pweh-zle (puzzle)
swimmy-poo' (swimsuit)
GUHTT! (good)
fome (phone)

And a funny quote:
Caleb was following Braden around while he was getting dressed. Braden put on some deodorant. "Wahs dat?" "It's deodorant." "No! Dat's not yogoht!"

bobe-isms

Wha happon?

Dat faw downuh?

Can't do-it!

And I think everyone's favorite...

What doeeeen? A.k.a: Wha-yu doeeeen?

Just remember, none of these questions are asked just once. Oh no. Multiple times in a row! Especially, 'what doeen?' Caleb doesn't ever seem quite satisfied with your answer.

And one more...
Yaaass. Normally accompanied by one big nod of his head.
He's very emphatic and clear when he says YES.

playing around with Caleb

First, a bobe-ism: two ones
Maddie still says 'two ones' sometimes, and I think he's picked it up from her.

Next, a qotd:
Out of nowhere in the middle of the day, Caleb called to me and then said, 'Fa-Fa gih me chucks.' Evidently that remote controlled truck my dad bought him and showed him last Sunday at his house made an impact.

Now for the pictures:
When you ask Caleb to show you 'silly', this is the face he'll show you:

This was his own new variation today.

And this is just a cute one of him 'answering' his phone and saying 'hi.'

some bobe-isms

fingerpainting

dog: Co-Co
horse: neigh-neigh
bread, bread & butter, pbj: bebuh
bottle: bahble
may I?: beeaye beeaye
salt, pepper, parmesan cheese (anything you sprinkle): sot
computer game: game-uh or soccuhs (it's a soccer game)
favorite word: whoa!

'WHOA!!!' comes out of Caleb all the time. Caleb's new favorite song is 'soopah' (Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious). After he listens to it and dances and the song ends, he always says, 'Whoa!!!' He'll also say 'whoa' if there's a loud noise, something drops, we stop the car a little too suddenly, or he's really excited about something.

li'l bobe speech

Caleb is really talking these days--full sentences now. This morning he said,
'Mommy, I see a big truck!'
and
'I want to sit on the couch with the pillow.'

Of course it sounded more like,
'Mommy, Ah see ah bee chuk.'
and
'Ahwahsih ah cosh wih piwohwoh.'

Yes, he needs his mommy to translate. Li'l Bobe is also using descriptive words like 'cold' and 'heavy'.

Caleb is still learning that 'no' is not the answer to everything. I must have a conversation like this with Caleb 20 times a day:
'Mommy, ah done. I wan mo uuummmm...'
'Would you like some more bebuh?' (bread w/ pbj)
'Nooo.'
'If you want more bebuh you say YES. Say YES if you want more bebuh.'
'Esss.'

Or a better example might be:
Screeching and grunting.
'Caleb, are you all done?'
'Noooo.'
'Do you want more food?'
'Noooo.'
'Do you want to get out of your highchair?'
'Noooo.'
And so on it goes until you tell him to say YES if he wants such and such and you finally hit upon the right thing!

fun facts about Caleb

What's Caleb up do these days?

One of our favorites bobe-isms is 'MEEEEEE!' We'll say something like, "Who wants to go see Bubbi?!" And he'll stop whatever he's doing and yell, 'MEEEEEE!' sometimes turning red in the face because he's so into it.

And as you can see in that picture, Caleb still only has 2 bottom teeth. He's got 4 on top, plus all 4 molars, but still only 2 on the bottom. His teeth have broken all the 'rules' and come in in their own unique out-of-order way!

Caleb imitates Maddie and tries to do everything she does. It's fun to see them play their own little invented games together. He regularly calls her 'Meh-meh' now.

Caleb is also very into Daddy. He doesn't like it when Daddy leaves, or even when Daddy goes upstairs. The other day while Braden was at work, Caleb saw a pair of Braden's shoes at the door and burst into tears. He was dragging the shoes around crying and saying "Daddy, Daaaaaddy...."

Caleb knows his animals sounds, body parts, and he knows a few of his letters--A, G, O, and he sometimes gets a few others.

One of Caleb's favorite things to do is sing. He loves Jingle Bells, ABC song, Eensy Weensy Spider, Zaccheus, The B-I-B-L-E.

This picture brings me to something else Caleb likes to do--break things! No, I'm just kidding, although he did break Maddie's rake. Caleb loved that rake, and now he's taken that love indoors by sweeping. He LOVES to get ahold of my broom or swiffer and push it all around the house. He loves to sweep right along with me, especially straight through my dirt piles! :)

Caleb also likes to have his socks put on. He gets very excited about socks especially, but also his shoes and his green froggy boots.

Caleb loves books--it's one of the few times he'll sit still. He also loves to play with little animals, making them 'walk' and 'talk'. And he loves cars and trucks.

Caleb's vocabulary has expanded like crazy in the past 2 weeks. I love how kids can learn things all of a sudden. He says many new words every day, he repeats things back to us, and he's putting 2 and 3 words together often. He's saying things like "Dav 'n' Golth" (David & Goliath) and "beh buh" for bread & butter.

Speaking of bread & butter, it's one of Caleb's favorite foods, along with cheese. He is also a pretty big meat eater. To help him eat his vegetables, I give him 'dipping sauce' (which is salad dressing), and he LOVES to dip! Caleb is also very insistent that HE feed himself. He rarely enjoys being spoon-fed.
And that's all I can think of right now!

-isms

For a couple months now whenever we're in the car, Caleb is always saying, 'chwuck! chwuck!' every time he sees a truck. But now he's decided that all trucks are big and says, 'bee chwuck! beeee chwuck!'

Maddie always says, 'pursh' instead of 'push.'

a qotd, a maddie-ism & a bobe-ism

QOTD
We were all4 in the van today driving to a nearby mountain for some fall fun. I was trying to find some music for the kids that would help keep them occupied. I spied a Christmas album on the ipod. It's a little early in the season, but I put it on anyway--Maddie LOVES Christmas carols. The first song was "The First Noel." Maddie instantly exclaimed, "It's 'The First Noah!' ...Noah and the ark!"

MADDIE-ISM #1
We've been playing Go-Fish a lot with Maddie lately. She loves to play before bed in particular, but she doesn't ask the question the right way. No "Do you have...?" Instead she says one of her very own Maddie-isms: "Are you have...?" which would be the way she asks any 'do' question.

BOBE-ISM (his first in fact!)
Caleb is definitely one to let you know what he's thinking. Lately, it's "ah done!" I taught him to say that when he's done eating, but he is now using it for everything. When he wakes up in the morning and has finished playing in his crib, you'll hear, "Ah-done AHHHH-done! Mommmmeeeeee, ah done! Ah-done ah-done!" After we've been in the car long enough for Caleb (which seems to be about at the 7 minute mark), we hear, "Ah done! Ah done!...Ah done ah done!" When he wants out of his highchair, "Ah done! Ah done!" When I'm changing his diaper and normally about the time I am just starting to wipe him off, "Ahhhh done! Ahhhhh done!" I think you get the picture. :)
