Going to see White Christmas
This was quite the adventure! I found out that "White Christmas" was coming live to a theatre nearby and so I asked (begged) Braden to please take me for our anniversary. We had also just given Maddie a birthday present of taking her to see An Irish Christmas at a different theater, but we hadn't bought tickets yet. It turns out they were the same weekend, so instead we decided to bring Maddie with us to "White Christmas." She was excited; we all were excited!
Then the threats of snow began. I wasn't too concerned until it was the day before and we were getting weather reports looking pretty bad. We decided to just decide last minute on the day of, Sunday. Well during the day Saturday Maddie threw up. Oh man. I was so disappointed! She's sick, snow's coming, this was the last weekend of the show. Maddie really wanted to go too.
Sunday morning came, Maddie was feeling better. We stayed home from church to rest and make sure she was okay. Snow was still coming...and it began. And we pretty much decided we weren't going. So disappointing!!!
Coincidentally, my dad had to go pick up Uncle Pat from the airport and so I called him to see how the roads were (we had to go the same route) and he surprisingly said they weren't bad at all. So, last minute we decided, no, we're going for it!
We dropped the other 3 kids off at Braden's parents' house with extra clothes in case they got snowed in. We threw stuff in a bag, in case we got stuck and had to stay in a hotel. Maddie was pale, still not feeling well and having not eaten all day, but she wanted to go so badly. I helped her get dressed, threw on some nice clothes and away we went.
The roads were pretty sketchy getting to the highway, but once on the highway everything was fine.
We made it to the theater, we watched the show. It was a really fun show to see live. Great singing, great dancing, and some really classic numbers! Not a fan of how they switched up the storyline a bit, but it was still a lot of fun and done quite well.
The temperature went up a bit, so getting home was much easier than we thought it would be. We retrieved our kids and went home late that night. More snow came...and so did more throw-up. Poor Maddie threw up several times over the next day and was sick for two more days, poor thing. We all got the virus to some degree, it was very mild (just some nausea) for most of us. Braden was the only other one who was pretty sick.
(After a teeny little "episode" this is where Maisie spent two days. The first day she laid on the couch ALL DAY. When this wiggly girlie lays still, she is most definitely sick.)
But despite all the obstacles, SOMEHOW we made it to that show and had a great time! So glad it worked out in the end.

It's beginning to look...

The adventure of taking a Christmas photo
So I always take my Christmas card photos in November so that I can have them ready to send out in December. I had a cute idea to try in my head, but I kept forgetting about it, or something would happen when I intended to take photos, one of the littles was napping, etc etc etc. Life with four kids.
So finally it was getting late into November, and I just needed to take photos NOW and get a picture. So I dismissed my creative idea and gathered the kids and upon viewing their clothes decided that this photo would definitely be black and white. Duke and Maisie were nearing nap time and changing of clothes was just not going to happen. I was lucky Maisie's hair was fixed.
And would you believe I got THIS...
...out of THIS???
(Well, not exactly...I lost the original colored pic of the final fixed photo. But this is the general idea!)
Thank goodness for some simple photo editing! Wow.
I was stuck with Duke screaming because he wanted nothing to do with a photo at the moment (though he normally LOVES it and says 'cheese' all cutesy-like), so I decided to just go with it. At first I was going to delete all the photos and try again later than day, but after all, it was a great crying face. And you know what, that's REAL LIFE, folks! So I went with it, irony and all...twinkly stars, magical moment and ...screaming baby!
So after my positive experience with photo editing the kids' pic, I tackled the task of finding a picture of Braden and me. We rarely are in photos together because I'm normally behind the camera. We occasionally get Maddie or Caleb to snap a photo of us, but those are more often than not out of focus or come with heads chopped off or from a weird low angle. (Note to self: I've got to teach at least one of them some basic photo skills.)
So I started working with the only two halfway decent photos of us I could find from the year, and I was pleased with the results of one. Not so bad, eh? It was going to be pretty small on the card anyway, with the kids' picture being the large one.
HOWEVER, Braden saw this pic and said he looked like Fabio and blah blah blah. I said that was crazy and he didn't look like Fabio because Fabio has long hair. And please, we don't have any other photo of us that works or looks halfway decent, and it is just a Christmas card that gets thrown away anyway. And our picture was just going to be tiny on the card.
He let me use the photo.
We sent out the first few cards and one of our friends texted Braden two days later and said he loved the glamour shot of Braden. Sigh.
I told Braden he won and I'm sorry. So don't be counting on another glamour shot of us for 2014!

Jezzy
I don't know why but we have a few pix in November of Jezzy at our house. I guess it must have been during the time they were here for Thanksgiving, and he must have stopped by with Shawn for some reason. Well, whatever the reason, here he is with Maisie.

Annalisa
We babysat her one afternoon for Auntie La, and Maddie, Caleb and I had lots of fun holding her and taking photos with her.
The babies were down for their naps for most of the time she was with us, so it was a fun time for us to have some undistracted time with Annalisa.
Caleb is very careful with babies. He's so gentle and careful with them, and he truly enjoys holding them, which is sweet to see. (It's funny, too, because he's not really careful with anything else!)
Oh wait a moment, I think we got a teeny tiny smile.
Annalisa is not a big smiler. She's not a fussy baby, but she's not a super smiley baby either. You have to work to get them. And we worked hard to get this one! :)

November's Thankful Tree
My idea was to have each of the kids add a leaf a day to our Thanksgiving Tree.
However, they got a little over-zealous one day early on and we quickly ran out of branches. We had to enlarge our tree.

Of course, without Duke talking much, we helped him along by suggesting some of his faves like his cup and Mommy. He would readily agree, "No!" (meaning 'yes' of course).

Thanksgiving 2013 - part 2
We also celebrated with Braden's family. Maddie helped me make some amazing mashed sweet potatoes that were covered with fried apples. Yum!
She's really getting quite competent in the kitchen, and she loves to be there. Her mother's daughter.
The Duke is wearing the sweater Nana knit for him—she knit identical sweaters for all her men, from Grandpap to the youngest great-grandson, which was Duke.
Maisie was being a stinker and was clinging to Daddy, not giving Aunt Shawny a hug. Here's Aunt Shawny trying to get Maisie to warm up to her.
