I had brought some beets and spinach in from the garden, and Maddie was watching me as I put them in the sink to wash.

Well, that explains it...and coincidentally that also explains why Maddie insists on calling acorns 'haycorns,' which has mystified Braden and me for a very long time now. If you are not familiar with the original Winnie the Pooh, quite a few words are mispronounced. I guess that's the down-side to Maddie's memorization.
