At one of the last times at my parents' house, Duke excitedly noticed our friend's jeep parked at his parents' house down the street. We let him sit in it, and it made his day!
Caleb made us his birthday list.
We made another trip down south for church plant and moving business and stopped at Shawn's on the way down. It was fun to see her new house! Duke traveled surprisingly well with his cast.
It was kind of a funny trip in that both we and my parents stayed at the Rich's house on the same night. We were there just for one day before heading out to Matt's church retreat. My parents were there for just one or two days to sign papers for their new house. So Martha arranged a big dinner for all of us, and invited the Davises who had just moved down (from here too), her daughter and son-in-law (who will be joining our church) and one other couple who is considering joining our new church.
While we were at the church retreat, everyone, upon seeing Duke's cast, kept saying, "Oh, you should talk to the Moseley's." Apparently there are other families like us! Last summer four of her kids were in casts. They've broken 6 bones collectively, if I remember right. And she's a super health-freak mom like myself. We eat totally the same, you know, all those good bone broths for strong bones and stuff. Ha ha!
On the way home, poor Duke threw up. It appeared to just be a fluke because he didn't have any trouble after that. But we had to pull off in the middle of nowhere at the tiny gas station-store. There was this big tiger out front, which the kids had some fun with while we cleaned off the Duke.
Fortunately, (and all mothers will understand why I note this) somehow when Duke threw up he only got himself. It was a mess, but it DID NOT GET ON THE CARSEAT. Amazing, huh?! It sure made for the easiest traveling clean-up, and I was thanking God for that!
And the Duke got his cast off, hurray!!!
He had quite the time re-learning how to walk though. I did a lot of stretching exercises and range of motion exercises with him. The doc kept saying it would just take time because he was only walking for about 10 months prior to the break.
Even now as I write (end of August) I can still see a slight issue with his walking. The doc keeps saying he will outgrow it and re-adjust, it just takes time because he was so young and had not walked for long. But he runs now and jumps with ease, and he has progressively walked better and better.
One night for dessert we had strawberries and whipped cream in ice cream cones. The littles had fun!
I left Duke napping back at the house with Susie and took the older three to pick strawberries. It was a GORGEOUS day!!
