the last recipe

Okay, here's the last recipe. This is a cookie recipe that I got from Nana, that I think she got from Aunt BJ. These cookies are so yummy, especially at Christmastime...which isn't that far away! You have also probably never tasted cookies quite like these. They require a little extra effort, but are well worth it!

Double Chocolate Cookies

1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
10 oz maraschino cherries

In a large bowl, mix first 5 ingredients. In mixer beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients (those first 5 you mixed together); blend. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press down in center with thumb. Drain cherries (drain them well!) reserving the juice. Place a cherry in the center of each formed cookie. Make the frosting.

Frosting:
6oz/1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
4 tsp reserved cherry juice

In a small saucepan, combine chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk. Melt chocolate mixture. Stir in reserved cherry juice. Spoon 1 tsp frosting over each cherry to cover. Bake at 350 for 7 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
